About Me

I enjoy teaching students of all ages, from young beginners to adults, and am constantly striving to discover innovative teaching methods and successful practice strategies to make the average player become an enduring lover of music.

I have been playing the piano since I was 5 years old, and I loved music so much, I soon added the flute, violin and singing to my musical studies.  I graduated summa cum laude with a BM degree in Vocal Music Education from the University of Northern Colorado in 1985, studying voice, piano, music theater, and opera as well as receiving my teacher certification.  I taught vocal music education (both elementary and secondary) in public schools for 6 years.  I began teaching private piano and voice lessons in 1987 and soon discovered my passion for teaching students one on one and encouraging them by individually coaching them according to their special interests and needs.

Through my many years of teaching,  I have developed a larger, tech-savvy home studio and take pleasure in planning effective ways to make piano playing a reality for any student and develop confidence and technique for any singer.  Students enjoy an ‘off the bench’ lab session in addition to their private lesson time and receive comprehensive instruction in theory and technique, and all types of musical styles including classical repertoire, jazz, improvisation and current hits.

Because I am passionate about learning and teaching,  I am continually reading, taking classes and attending workshops and conferences to continue my education and improve my teaching skills. I am an active member of the Music Teacher’s National Association, Colorado State Music Teachers Association, and Foothills Music Teachers Association.

On a personal note, I have a wonderful and supportive husband, and three grown children who currently live spread out in each time zone of the USA.  When I am not teaching or practicing, you may find me playing piano, keyboard and singing for my church worship team, gardening, reading, scrap-booking photos, taking long walks with my sweet golden retriever, or traveling with my husband.
